‘Sometimes letting go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on’ - Eckhart Tolle
Last weekend, my husband, Damien and I were out walking in our local woodlands, in the South-East coast of England.
It is something that we do quite regularly, except today was different.
We had taken an unexpected turn, which had led us to a completely new path.
As we rounded the corner, I saw the most incredible tree I had ever seen.
This tree was so beautiful.
I looked up at it in awe. It stood so tall and majestic that it literally took my breath away. Its’ thick knobbley trunk was so wide, and its’ branches big and tall.
Truly, this was a regal tree, standing proudly there in all its' resplendent glory. Instantly, I felt my heart burst open, exploding with wonder and love.
I wondered how old this tree might possibly be…
Judging by it’s girth, there was every chance that this tree was a hundred years older than I was. I imagined all that it must have witnessed and seen over those years!
I leaned into the tree, pushing my heart up against the trunk, to give it a big hug.
As I connected with the tree, I could feel a deep and beautiful connection energy emanate from it. We shared a beautiful moment together.
In my meditation the next day, I took the time to journal my encounter with this special tree.
Here are 3 insights about courage that emerged from my experience….
Insight #1. Have the courage to let go regularly.
This beautiful tree has seen hundreds of Autumn season, and yet every time, it has the courage to release both its’ leaves and sweet chestnuts.
I couldn't help but wonder, 'How does the tree have the courage to let everything go again and again each Autumn?'
There is no need to hold on to the past.
Be wise and courageous. Give yourself permission to release what you no longer need. Letting go makes space for new things and ideas to emerge.
Release all the things that you don’t want to take forward in your own life, including any burdens, entanglements or worries that are causing stress in your life. By doing so you create space for new opportunities and possibilities.
Insight #2. Have the courage to let go beautifully.
Nature reminds us that it is possible to let go of what it doesn’t need in a magnificent way. It never just releases dead brown or green leaves, on the ground.
First, it transforms and infuses its' leaves into something beautiful and colorful. On this particular tree, and others around it, I saw all kinds of gorgeous leaves - yellows, golds, reds, and even pink, orange and crimson colours.
Only once the leaves were transformed into stunning beauty are they released onto the ground, where they become fertilizer and nutrients for future growth.
You can transform everything you experience in your life, into something beautiful.
Let this beauty further enrich your life, and use it to support the next stage of growth.
Insight #3. Have the courage to be vulnerable.
This incredible tree will survive the winter months, with its branches stripped back, fully exposed to the elements. This process helps to make the tree stronger and ready for new Spring growth.
Is there anything in your life that you are ‘holding on to’ unnecessarily? What if you could step into a deeper state of trust and courageously let go of what you no longer need?
Can you be like this sweet chestnut tree and give yourself permission to let go with strength, beauty and courage?
And, now, my lovely friend, it’s over to you!
Something I’d invite you to contemplate and explore is this…
Is there something that you would love to have the courage to release in your life?
Use the natural cycle of Autumn to help you release it with love and gratitude…
Perhaps you would like to go into nature this week and create a mandala (as I did in the picture above) to represent yourself and /or your life sharing what you would like to leave behind with love and gratitude in 2016.
Let your inner child be creative and have fun!
