I stopped suddenly...

"Ooh! Was that... ? Could it really be...?" I wondered aloud with joy in my heart.

"No, it couldn't be... I quietly told myself....  Surely not yet...it's too soon, isn't it?"

But, even so, I couldn't help but run to the window and check.

I opened up my blinds and stole a look outside into the darkness.

A thrill of excitement ran over my body...

Yes, yes it was!

I momentarily closed my eyes and savoured the sound of rain dancing on the roof above me...

I could see that just outside the window the rain was in fact, heaving down. It was so heavy that it appeared to be falling almost vertically. Excess water begin to flow down the footpath, as the now torrential rains started to quietly wash over the streets outside.

I felt a sudden wave of deep gratitude wash over me for the fluffy red hooded sweatshirt that wrapped around my body. My snuggly yoga pants hugged tightly around my legs, warming me from the outside in.

After months of lovely, long evenings and warm summer days, this rain signalled that change was on the horizon.

Here, was the absolute promise of cooler weather and the arrival of Autumn (or Fall).

Although this time, heralds in some of my favorite things such as roastie vegetables, pumpkin soup, leg warmers and slippers, I must admit that I find the coooler weather challenging.

My body loves the heat of summer and the healing rays of sunshine.

But, one thing that I have found to be really helpful is to change my food, my style of eating and living, in line with the seasonal changes.

So, in today's article I want to share with you 3 healing ideas that you can use to help you more fully align with yourself and nature, and the upcoming transition from Summer into Autumn / Fall this year...

Healing Idea #1: Super 'Boost' Your Food

This is the time of the year to focus on nutrition. When you add spices and superfoods in large enough quantities, they become medicinal and healing.

As the seasons change, your body will relish the love and support of dense nutrition. You can add healing spices and super greens to salads, soups, stews, smoothies and juices as you fancy.

Here is a healing recipe for Vegetable soup that I have been making for myself and Damien this week. Play around with quantities and flavor according to your own preferences. (Notice the quantities of some of the ingredients!)

Vegetable Broth Soup Recipe

3  cups of chopped up vegetables
6 - 8 cups Water
10- 20 Cloves of Garlic
1 large piece of fresh ginger
2 tsp Turmeric powder
3 tsp Cumin powder
1 tsp Salt (to taste)
Fresh lemons (to taste)
Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Boil together the vegetables, garlic and water. Once all the vegetables are cooked, then add in the turmeric powder, cumin powder and salt to taste. Add more water, and cook until the soup is well mixed and ready. I like to leave the soup simmering gently, for an hour or so. If you do this, keep an eye on the water levels and add more water if you need to.

If you prefer a smoother soup, blend all together in the blender. If you like a heartier, chunky soup, it's ready to go!

Serve in large soup bowls, with a generous squeeze of fresh lemon, salt and chopped parsley.

Note: This recipe keeps well, and I think it improves if left for a day or 2. Leftover can also be frozen, or added to the next day.

Healing Idea #2: Choose 'Immune- Supportive' Drinks

During the changing seasons, for vitality and healing, you need to support your immune system.  Perhaps, there is no easier way to do this than to add in a daily cup of freshly squeezed lemon and ginger tea. it is a delicious healing drink that you can drink anytime of the day, and it's one of my favorite drinks of all time.

Here's the recipe that I use most commonly.  Adapt it for your own purposes.

Healing Lemon, Honey and Ginger Hot Drink

Into a big cup add:

Lemon juice from either a 1/4 or 1/2 fresh lemon
Sliced up pieces of fresh ginger
1 Tablespoon of honey (use Manuka honey if possible)
Filtered hot water

Stir everything together and taste. Add more lemon juice or honey, as needed.

Note:  To save time, this recipe can be made in bulk and stored in the refrigerator. Reheat as required.

Healing Idea #3: Focus on Deep, Restorative Sleep

Increasing your sleeping hours is the secret ingredient to helping your body to be able to deal with change. The changing seasons are the perfect time to evaluate your sleeping schedule.

As the nights have been getting darker earlier, this past few weeks, I've noticed that I've started naturally going to bed earlier. This has really helped me to be able to increase my nightly hours of slumber. This has meant that I've been getting an extra hour or so of sleep, and I feel so much better for it.

If busy celebrities such as Heidi Klum and Arianna Huffington, who are well known for their stance on the benefits of sleep, can find time to sleep for 8-9 hours a day, I encourage you to try and do the same!
