After spending the last six months on the road, teaching yoga at some of the most beautiful places on earth, Damien and I have finally returned back to our home by the English Seaside.

Having the opportunity to travel and work all over the world is a dream come true for me.

Funny enough, one of the things that I love the most about travel, is the process of returning home.

In this post, I want to share 5 simple joys of returning home…

1. The joy of re-connecting with dear friends

They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder and I have to confirm from my travelling experiences that this is very true.

One of the things I have enjoyed so much over these past few days is catching up with friends and finding out what has been unfolding in their lives.  Being apart from those that you care about makes 'catch-up cups of tea' all the more precious.

2. Sleeping in my own bed

Over the last 6 months I have lost count of the many different types of beds I have slept in!  I somehow found myself on a seemingly relentless quest for the perfect balance between softness and firmness.

Amongst the many contenders were beds in hotels, bungalows, villas, hostels and even beds on planes, trains and buses. I was fortunate enough to find some really lovely comfy beds, as well as some pretty uncomfortable ones as well (The concrete base beds in Vietnam and the night trains in India will be forever memorable! :-)

But upon returning home, I have to say that nothing compares to the joy of sleeping in my own bed.  It was a nice reminder for me that sometimes the very thing we are searching for is right there in front of us!

3. Eating home-cooked meals

Over these past months, I have been very lucky to have had the chance to taste and enjoy a wide selection of exotic, tasty and delightfully yummy food.

Some of the culinary highlights came from enjoying freshly cooked street food in Bangkok and India.  One of my favourite dishes was freshly sliced mangoes served over sticky rice, washed down with the sweet juice of a fresh coconut… Mmmm…

As wild and wonderful as all of the different flavours were, one of the things that I missed was being able to spend time cooking and creating in my own kitchen. There is something so magical about the simple pleasure of preparing your own food and sharing it with those that you love.

4.  Sinking into a hot bath on a cold night

There is nothing quite like the feeling of sinking into a nice hot bath on a cold winters night.  Travelling around hot countries over the past six months made this very English delight but a distant dream.

Since my return home, baths have been on the top of my agenda. Each day I look forward to finishing my day with a wonderful hot bath to totally unwind and relax.

5. Gratitude for all the amazing experiences

My heart and mind are so rich with all the wonderful memories, experiences and beautiful people I have met on the road. And, now that I have returned home, I can feel that there is a new process beginning: a process of integrating all the different distinctions, learnings and chance meetings into my everyday life.

On my travels, I was able to immerse myself in local cultures as well as be exposed to the insights and inspirations of fellow travellers.  I felt like each person sprinkled a little bit of spiritual gold dust on me and this in turn is helping to shape the person that I am growing into.

Appreciating lifes simple pleasures

Travel opens our minds to all the diverse possibilities here on earth.  It is this diversity that offers us new opportunities for growth and expansion.  This diversity is a gift to help us to open our hearts more fully so that even more love can flow through us.

Returning home has allowed me to recognise that all the new things that I have been exposed to have now become a part of me.

It has also provided me with an opportunity to be even more grateful for all of life's blessings…
