Did you know that we are coming up to one of the most important times of the year?

This is called the Solstice period, which actually begins on the 20th June, and lasts until the 22nd June. In each calendar year, there are always 2 Solstice periods.

So, What is The Solstice?

‘Solstice’ literally means the 'stopping' or standing still of the sun.

It is the name given to the longest day of the year – 21 June – when the sun is at its highest point in the Northern hemisphere and the lowest point in the Southern hemisphere.

So, if you who live in the Northern Hemisphere, this day is called the Summer Solstice, with the middle day, (the 21st June) being given the name midsummer, the longest day of the year!

If you live in the Southern Hemisphere this day is called Winter Solstice, and it is the shortest day of the year.

It is celebrated in many different ways, according to different cultures but usually it is associated with some type of celebration, festival or rituals.

Why Is It Celebrated?

The Solstice has been celebrated by thousands of Pagans all over the world who believe in the sun’s power and celebrate summer for its association with life and fertility.

The sun nourishes the Earth and all the beings who live on it. Without the sun, neither humans, animals nor plants would exist, and life as we know it would be totally different.

The energies around the Solstice make it a powerful time for healing and transformation.

If you live in the Northern hemisphere, June 21st marks the start of Summer. This is a powerful time for expansion, transformation and healing.

Interestingly, if you live in the Southern hemisphere, June 21st marks the shortest day. Use the qualities of this day to come back to yourself and your center. Know that from now on, your days are going to get longer, lighter and brighter.
