Would you love to transform something in your life?
Have you ever heard yourself say that ‘some day’ you will change your career, travel overseas, make more money, be in that amazing love relationship, connect more deeply with your spiritual path or purse a creative dream…
These kind of ‘some day’ responses are often an indicator of an unconscious self imposed limitation. The good news is that these limitations are surprisingly much easier to release than you might think…
Limitations are old stories that you have outgrown.
Limitations are unconscious blocks, patterns, excuses, reasons, habits or obstacles that stand in the way of you living your dreams. They are merely your old stories and ‘ways of being’. They may have served you in the past but this discomfort you feel is a call to show you that you have now outgrown them and are ready to replace them with something else, more aligned with who you are today.
You can transcend your limitations by taking a holistic approach to them. Mental and emotional limitations may be limiting beliefs or thoughts that you are holding on to. Or they may be old, unconscious fears.
Physical limitations are showing you where you are stuck and what you would like to shift in your life. Maybe you would like to lose weight. Maybe you would like to change jobs. Maybe you would like to feel more abundant. Maybe you would like to attract new people into your life?
Working with the inner world of your thoughts and feelings, has the power to readily and rapidly shift your physical reality. You can sense the presence of limitations when you find yourself saying or thinking….
- I don’t have enough time…
- I don’t know how…
- Oh I could never do that…
- That’s not really my type of thing…
- Other people are (better/smarter/more interesting) than me…
- That idea scares me too much…
Usually underlying all limitations are the thought pattern of “I am not worthy”, or “I am not deserving enough,” or, “I am not good enough.”
Defending your Limitations.
Typically, limitations are something that we find ourselves defending or justifying. You may well find yourself thinking, something along the lines of “here are the reasons why I can’t do that… “ And the more of a limitation it is, the more reasons and examples you will have to support your limiting story.
Frequently, people defend their limitations because their limitations are comfortable and familiar. Releasing and healing limitations are a vital part of the process of transformation.
The presence of your desire to experience some thing different in your life is showing you that your limitation has now become out-dated.
I have noticed that people can only change when they are prepared to address these old patterns. Wanting something different is a sign that you have out-grown your old story and your old identity. You are ready to do something different; learn something new, re-prioritise your life and change your way of seeing the world and yourself.
Limitations hold you back from your dreams.
One of the themes that I frequently see in my transformative healing sessions are the number of people who are kept living small simply because they are holding on to a limitation.
What I also frequently see is that when you are able to let go of these limitations, it is literally like opening the doorway to a brand new world.
As you release limitations in your life, you create space for new ideas to emerge. It is in this new space, that interesting new possibilities and different life stories can be woven.
The key to understand here, is that for you to realize any of these dreams, you cannot keep doing what you have always done. For anything to be different in your life, you must do something different from what you are currently doing.
What I have come to realize is that this means that you actually need to let go of something. You are exactly where you are for a reason. There is a specific thing that you are holding onto. It is this “something” that is your limitation. Limitations are just waiting to be released.
Going beyond your limitations.
Realise that it is only your ‘perceived’ limitations that are keeping you stuck and stopping you from expressing your true potential.
It is possible for you to go beyond these limitations. In the process of identifying them you transcend them. In the presence of awareness you can allow them to dissolve and heal for good so you can get on with living life on your terms.
As you begin to address limitations it can be helpful to work alongside someone else such as a coach, partner or healer, as it can often be tricky to clearly see limitations as they usually reside in your blind spot.
Simply by shining light on limitations you can become aware of them. As your awareness grows, you can make the necessary internal shifts, to release the limitation and in time replace it with something new.
Releasing limitation will allow you to move forward and live the life that you truly dream about.

The other day I was asked this great question.... "I’m new to Yoga and I don’t understand how doing Yoga can help you lose weight – can you explain please? I guess I’m used to hearing doing cardio or weights to lose weight but I can’t understand how doing different poses which you don’t really sweat helps you lose weight."
This winter I have been having my own personal 'yoga' retreat of sorts. It's been a hugely restful time of hibernation, with a focus on doing my own inner work, healing and self-care. But, with each winter I experience, I find that it always brings its' own set of unique challenges.
